Composting

I’ve been thinking of getting a compost bin to prepare compost at home. A few days back, I noticed empty unused ‘matki’ lying at home.  Matkis are quite common here in India. They are used for storing water and helps to keep water cool. Normally after 4 – 5 months, their cooling capacity decreases due to the micro pores getting blocked with dust or impurities in water.

My idea is to use ‘Matki’ as a compost bin :) My plan is to make small holes at the base of it. This would serve multiple purposes: to drain excess water, filter composted material, extract nutrient rich water from composting matter.

I’ve 2 matkis to start my trial with. Will post pics in the coming weeks of how this goes. Fingers crossed..
